Internationally renowned ichnologist Dr. Kerrie Bann has been providing specialist consulting to the global petroleum industry since 2000. She has worked on reservoir intervals from Eastern and Western Australia, the Timor Sea, offshore Sarawak and North America.

She supplements her vast range of core and outcrop experience with field work in modern analogue environments such as Moreton Bay on the east coast of Australia, the Burdekin Delta in north-eastern Queensland and the Bay of Fundy in eastern Canada.

Dr. Bann is also the world’s foremost ichnological and sedimentological illustrator, combining her lifelong love of art with her years of scientific experience. Her commercial and academic illustrations have been featured on journal covers, in peer-reviewed articles, in textbooks and at industry conferences.

Dr Bann received her Ph.D. in sedimentology, ichnology and high-resolution sequence stratigraphy, from the University of Wollongong in 1998. The project involved the detailed ichnological and sedimentological examination of a vast quantity of spectacularly exposed shallow marine and coastal outcrops of Early Permian age, in the Sydney Basin, along the south coast of New South Wales, Australia.

In 2000 Dr Bann undertook a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Queensland, partially funded by Santos Ltd. & Oil Company of Australia Ltd., focusing on the ichnological re-evaluation of the stratigraphically equivalent early Permian reservoir facies in the Bowen Basin in Queensland. The study comprised the detailed analysis of over 5000 meters of core and an extensive outcrop analysis of shallow marine, deltaic, estuarine, coastal and delta plain deposits from the Permian Sydney / Bowen Basin system.

Field locations ranged from extensive coastal exposures in south eastern New South Wales, to rugged and remote gorges and outcrops in central Queensland.

In 2003, Dr Bann moved to Calgary in Canada for a Postdoctoral position within the Ichnology Research Group, based primarily out of the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Alberta.

During this time, a number of projects were completed, focusing on the integration of ichnology and sedimentology to enhance facies models and stratigraphic interpretations in the Alberta Basin Canada, the Book Cliffs and Wyoming USA, the Timor Sea and the larger Sydney-Bowen Basin, Australia.

In addition to her full-time consultancy, Dr. Bann also holds a position as an Adjunct Professor in the department of Earth Sciences at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver where she acts as a supervisor to numerous post grads.
